Firstly, in order to come up with a good product review blog article, you need to have a very good grasp of the language you’ll be writing the review article in. That is because the review articles always have to be written in highly nuanced language. And the people who read the review articles don’t expect them to be written by people who struggle with language issues. In other words, the review articles are supposed to be checked for factual correctness: not grammatical correctness. If a review article is discovered to have grammatical mistakes, its credibility is almost automatically lost (regardless of the merits of the information contained in that particular article).

Secondly, in order to come up with a good product review article, you need to have a very intimate knowledge of the product you’ll be reviewing. If for instance, you are writing the review of a laptop, you need to have used that particular laptop for some time, in order to be in a position to enumerate its strengths and weaknesses in a review. Most of the people reading the laptop’s review will be expecting deep information: and not just an enumeration of its specifications. If, for instance, the laptop under review is powered by a core i5 processor, you may find part of your review article being turned into a rather technically-involving i5 vs i7 debate: as you try to explain/justify some of your observations.

Of course, over and above the good grasp of the language and the intimate knowledge of the product under review, you still need objectivity, if you are to come up with a good product review article. But it can also be argued that the objectivity would be a byproduct of your proper grasp of nuanced language and your intimate knowledge of the product under review.

If you’re thinking about starting a food or cooking blog, you should know that it’s quite a competitive field. All you have to do is a simple search in Google, and you’ll see how many sites are already out there. One thing you need to keep in mind however is that no one can replace your individuality. The thing that can make your blog stand out from everyone else is your own personality and past experience. So rather than going for something generic, try to make it as personal as you can. Hopefully people will read your work and like what you’re doing, and they might just find themselves identifying with you more than anyone else.

It’s also imperative that you aim for quality when it comes to a food blog. You have some pretty picky readers on your hands and they’ll be able to tell if you are faking it. Some people might be tempted to look for recipes from other places than simply compile them on to their blog. But it’s always better to go with something unique that you’ve actually prepared yourself. In general, follow the rule of trying to make your blog is helpful as possible no matter what type of food you’re talking about whether it’s barbecue, Asian food, or desserts.

Once your blog gets out there, you can begin to think about marketing and promotion. And if you have some loyal followers, you can even think about an e-book. The advantage of an e-book is that you can compile all of your unique recipes in one place and sell it for a good price. Depending on how you market it, you might not even have to share your profits with anyone else.

This should be a goal that you work towards and it’s obviously not something that you’ll be doing right away. But there have been many successful e-books out there ranging on a variety of topics such as cooking with gas grills, repairing food with kids, or healthy eating. You can also narrow down to be much more specific and this will likely cut down on your competition. For example, a cookbook that deals with preparing food onto charcoal grill will be more specific than general barbecue cooking. Just make sure that your choice fits with your personality because this is likely to be a long-term project that you’ll be spending a lot of time on.

Let’s keep it simple people – there is no way to make money in your sleep, with no experience, online. Its not going to happen. If it sounds too good to be true – then it is.

Which is not to say you can’t make money online. I make my living online, and have for a couple of years. But to make money online you have two choices:
get yourself a job
start a business

Just like in the real world! There is no magic about making money online. Its the same as offline. You either sell your goods and services to others (think freelance writers, or sellers of hand-made goods on etsy.com), or you build a business.

I’ve chosen to build an online business – which is tough hard work. Its easier than doing it off-line because at least I don’t need to get a bank loan and spend thousands on rent and equipment for my business.

On the other hand most people don’t walk into a high street shop thinking “this is a scam”. Online a lot of people think just that!

And I don’t blame them because the thieves behind the Empower Network scam  has given all online businesses a bad reputation.

Empower is a classic, in fact its not just a scam, its an illegal pyramid scheme. The only way you make money from Empower, is by recruiting people to sell, Empower. They in turn recruit more people, and you get paid a percentage of their recruits. Do you see the pattern? Why’s it illegal – because its selling nothing of any value – about from itself.

Of course they don’t actually say that – the signup page claims to be offering you an “exclusive blogging system”, killer sales leads, an 8-part video system and much, much more.

I’ve been in this business a lot time and I can tell you for sure – you get absolutely nothing of value. The Blogging System – is just WordPress – available free from wordpress.com, installed on their own domain – so all you are doing is giving them free content! The video series is a joke – the videos are very, very short, in fact the longest one is about how to setup your merchant account to get paid – oh that’s another $20/month – did they forget to mention that on the sign-up page!

The Empower Network scam XXX needs willing suckers to succeed. While there are people who are prepared to believe in the tooth fairy, and free money, they will get suckers to sign up. Make sure you are not one of them.

I believe that where the vast majority of the doubters go wrong is that they think that being a full-time blogger is just about writing. Well if you’re going to build this into a business, you definitely have to be a little more creative than that! It will be very hard for you to earn a full time living from any online properties if you think that all it takes is to write.

Diversification is the name of the game, and it’s the only way to make sure that you have a business that derives its income from a variety of sources.

The first order of business (literally) is to try and build an audience. You become a trusted voice for the members of that audience. This will allow you to establish a relationship with those people. Once that is done, the marketing opportunities will literally present themselves. Another nice perk of this method is that it is independent of the search engines and whatever direction they choose to take with their algorithms.

What can you do when you have a sizable audience? Well, for starters, you can review and recommend products and services to them. Because you have taken the time to establish a relationship in the first place, your conversions will be higher.

Other people will notice the size of your audience and approach you for joint ventures, meaning that they offer that you share their products with your audience in exchange for a cut of the sales proceeds.

If you have the chops for it, you can write and self-publish books and sell them. Amazon has made this really easy and potentially very lucrative.

You can further diversify in your area of expertise. If you’ve been able to develop your own social media presence, you can offer your services as a social media consultant to other business owners who might need the help! You could do this in person, or via webinars. Do you see where I’m going with this?

Whenever people say you can’t make money online, I’m willing to bet that it’s because they have blinders on. If they took the time to realize all the possibilities, I’m pretty sure they would think otherwise.

Seems as though everyone is obsessed with making money from blogging. Lets be honest here – most people who write a blog – do not make any money from it! Nor will they ever do so! 

If you think you are going to make money blogging, you better be clear exactly how you are going to do so before getting stuck in. What are you going to write about is your first decision to make, and if you are basing your decision on whether or not there is any money in the subject rather than whether or not you have any knowledge of the subject – this will be your first obstacle. Try getting up every morning and writing a 400 word article about something you have no knowledge of, or interest in – see how long that lasts.

So – if you want to make money from your blog – you need to make sure that:

1. There is money in the subject
2. You will be able to attract traffic
3. You know what the hell you are talking about and
4. There is an endless supply of topics to discuss

So – now you have a subject that fits all these categories – you are good to go. Time to set up your blog and set the world on fire. Setting up a blog is simple. Making it look pretty is simple. But – and this is a Big But – attracting money-making traffic is a bastard unless you can satisfy at least 1,3 and 4, because of you cannot – you will never satisfy number 2. Trust me – it is not that easy to make money with a blog.

Is blogging for money for everyone? Of course not. In fact, many people try but fail to actually make anything. You typically can’t just blog about anything and expect to build a following. You need to blog about things that matter to people but at the same time, something that can also be monetized as well. So focus on getting traffic.

Once you get traffic, the way you can monetize your blog is through using programs such as Adsense or affiliate programs like Amazon. If people like and trust you, when you recommend products that you truly believe in, people will buy and when they do, you make money from it. Just remember to disclose the fact that you make money from your recommended products.
